Biography

Born in Australia, Kerry Shaffer is an award winning  flutist
who has studied in the United States, Australia and Germany.  In 1998,
she received her Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance (with Honours)
from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, at the University of Sydney, Australia.  In her
second year she was awarded the Associate of Music Australia with Distinction from the
Australian Music Examinations Board.

Kerry Shaffer has performed as soloist with orchestras, including a performance of
Mozart’s Flute and Harp Concerto.  For the past 13 years, she has served as Principal
Flute with a number of orchestras, and until relocating to Tennessee, was the Principal
Flute of the La Jolla Symphony for 9 years.  Kerry was the solo flutist on a chamber
orchestra tour throughout Germany, conducted by Wolfram Christ, Principal Viola of the
Berlin Philharmonic.  Her teachers have included:  Damian Bursill-Hall (Pittsburgh
Symphony),  James Kortum and Allison Mitchell (Sydney Symphony), Geoff Collins
(Sydney and Adelaide Symphony), Amanda Hollins (Australian Opera & Ballet
Orchestra) and recently David Shostac (Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra) and
Thomas Robertello (National Symphony).

A versatile performer, Kerry Shaffer is available for concert performance, studio work or
private functions.   

Private Flute Instruction is offered for only the most dedicated and committed students.
